January 22nd: game vs Doctors

Despite the great help from players from Samurais Sevens due to many All France players missing , we lost to the Doctors yesterday by only a few tries (final score : 22-35).

But we have plenty of friendly games to get ready for our cup scheduled mid March .

Thanks to everyone who took up their Sunday to play.

Final score : 24-19

Are we satisfied with the game played by the AFRC last Sunday? Yes, if we consider the full time score, a victory 24-19 which let us hope to get back the trophy vs the Dandelions…… but surely not with the game displayed by our team. Let me explain you my disappointment.

1st of all, we have seen too many tactical errors, particularly from our centers who have played the same strategy the whole game : CHALLENGING THE OPPONENT SIDE even when we outnumbered our opponents for a surely scored try if we had opened wide.
We experienced again, in fact, the problem we got for the last seasons. We played individually and not at all collectively.
A bit same when we insisted to skip the pass to our center and Gentle Mushi was so happy to intercept the ball, an action which cost us 7 points and more if the referee was not keen enough to signal an off side position from their dangerous and speedy #13.

2nd of it: we lost many balls on our own throw-in at line out. More coordination should be worked out.

At the opposite, our forwards made few mistakes. Our scrums were strong and dynamic, leaving the Gentle Mushi in difficult position to use correctly their own throw ins.

We were able to make nice mauls particularly from Maxime Gaudemer who played his best game so far this year.

Finally, Atsushi, as full back, saved 2 tries with perfect tackles at 5 meters from our try line which should have led to a defeat since these 2 actions happened in the last 10 mns.

Once again, our play was levelled up when Ryo took over the fly half position at the start of the 2nd half. His vista and speed helped us to take, for the first time in the game, the lead 19-14, thanks to 2 tries in the first 6 min of the 2nd half.

Idem with Kosuke who showed us great runs when he replaced Matthieu Pasini after half time.

5 min later, the Gentle Mushi scored an unconverted try to level the score at 19-19, profitting from a yellow card given to Anthony for a dangerous tackle on the Gentle Mushi’s flanker which has left the AFRC playing at 14 vs 15 for 10 mns.

From that time, no team showed superiority and the territorial domination was well balanced between the 2 teams leaving the attendance along the ground in big nervous tension and worry that the worst may happen at any moment.

Thanksfully, Maxime Gaudemer scored his 2nd try, 6mns before the end of the game to give the final word to the AFRC which won its 3rd game in the 2016 AFRC deVere rugby cup.

I would like to conclude by thanking Jo, Mika, Keisuke Kinoshita, Alexandre and their friends to have come to support the team. We appreciated their efforts.

Next game will be the virtual final deciding the 2006 cup winner between the AFRC and the Dandellions which have won their games vs Mocossus by 65 to 36.

AFRC Team :

Tanaka, Lolo, Matt Pasini, Cedric, Simon, Kosuke#7, Ras, Florian (C), Onda, Atsushi, Baptiste Dufresne, Joe, Baptiste Falgoux, Yas. Substitutes : Kosuke Yamamoto, Emir, Paul, Ryo, Kazu, Dan

Score: 0-5 (3mns); 7-5 (14mns); 7-10 (19mns); 12-10 (23mns),; 17-10 (27mns); 17-17 (329mns); 17-24 (35mns – Half time); 22-24 (36mns); 29-24 (39mns); 29-31 (41mns); 36-31 (47mns); 36-36 (51mns); 41-35 (53mns); 48-35 (66mns); 55-35 (67mns); 60-35 (70mns).

Last Sunday, the victory for the ALL FRANCE was very difficult to get since the moccos led the game until the 41st mns by 31-29 and until this time, each team led alternatively the game. But, with the strong wind in back and a 21 talentuous squad players and  timely management of the substitutes, the AFRC succeeded to score 4 tries during the last 10 mns.

The game was extremely pleasant with good movements among the forwards and excellent initiatives from the backs, The backs showed their speed and good hands in many occasions. Many tries were superbly conducted and built.
But, we missed too many tackles which left the hope to the Moccos to win this game since at half time they were leading by 17-24. As well our line out was deficient, mainly on the 1st jumper, but, Florian, our captain, corrected quickly this problem by deciding to play on the 2nd jumper and Lolo caught the balls easily. A second weak point for the AFRC team was a too late support to the ball carrier when he was tackled, inducing penalties against us for not releasing the ball.

Dan was the man of the game, once again, with, not only 2 tries but also a great agility to go through the opponent players. The coming of Ryo in replacement of Atsushi, in the mid of 2nd half brought also better ball control and panic in the Moccos defense line.

It is important to notice that, Florian, as captain, led particularly well the team. Under his leadership, no one talked, complained or shouted which was excellent to let everyone focus on his game. It was also part of our victory.

10 tries were scored – 5 were converted : Baptiste D (14mns), Onda (23mns), Jerome (27mns), Dan (36mns, 70mns), Young Baptiste (39mns), Atsushi (47 mns), Kosuke Y (53mns), Ryo (66 mns), Kosuke #7 (67mns). 1 conversion by Atsushi (14mns) and 4 by Kazu (39mns, 47 mns, 66mns, 67 mns).

The other game of the day was won by the No side over the Gentle Giant by 40 to 14

With this game, the AFRC is leading the 3rd edition of the AFRC deVere cup with 2 victory in 2 games (no side + Moccos), followed by the No side 1 victory in 2 games and Dandellions, 1 victory in one game, Moccos 0 victory in one game, gentle giant 0 victory in 2 games.
Next game day is 10th of April.

After the game, hot wine, prepared by our President (5 liters), was shared between the Moccos and us (see below pictures). Jerome (Le grand) came to attend the game and brought several packs of beers since he is back to France, this week. Please, let me thank him a lot since he was very active, regular and always in good mood with the AFRC. Dear Jerome, you will miss us!

Well done boys, you gave us a lot of pleasure with this flamboyant rugby we like to watch.

1/31/2016 : Penguins(24) vs AFRC (43)

After a long time hiatus where I’m sure most of the AFRC members enjoyed good food and good company, we were back on the ground last Sunday for a friendly game against the penguins of Setagaya.

We knew from the start that it wouldn’t be an easy game as our 10 ( Ryou) would be playing against us and our substitutes would be few. But we still managed to get a team ready to play under the AFRC jersey on this wonderful last day of January.

You can see the videos on Youtube at :

Please appreciate the work done by everybody but I’d like to point out a few things :
– first game for Jerome N. with a great presence and furious counterattacks.
– 2 tries by Hadrien, sign of a great feeling of the ball.
– A really good group of forwards who protected their line with aggressive tackles.
– some really strong attacks from Pierre and Masa.
Have a look at the videos… I’m sure the rest will be really interesting with many new french players ready to rock the place !
Ooh and we enjoyed the victory ( 43-24) by some cheese and wine.

AFRC( Win 43) vs Zenkai Beers (29) : 2015/11/22

All France vs Zenkai Beers, November 22nd 2015
Win 43 – 29

17 guys came on a warm Sunday to play All France final game of the Shuto league season vs Zenkai beers. We won by this game by a 14 points margin, 7 tries to All France vs 5 for the opponents.

The game actually did not start well : the first 10 minutes were all Zenkai and they score no less than 2 tries. All France players were not able to get possession of the ball but once we finally got it, we kept on scoring tries thanks to our back line and especially Super Ryo (3 tries out of 4 unanswered tries, in no less than 15 minutes. Fumio being the other scorer).

Same momenutum remained in the second half : our forwards were gaining crucial balls, overpowering them in the ruck and at the breaddowns, Space opened in Zenkai defence and our backs made full use of it. 3 additional tries  were scored in the first 17 minutes of the second half (Ryo, (every body saw the knock on but the referee) Max and Matsumura san). Later part of the game, our bodies were losing some stamina while zenkai beers, out of pride I would say, regained some control of the game and score the last 2 tries of the game.

Final Score 43 -29 (referee was nice enough not to award last minutes conversion from Zenkai beers, god knows why).

Many good news for this game
– All France was able to recover from the poor start in a very cool & structured fashion
– Dan won 200 JPY for his bet Ryo would be the first scorer
– On top of our scoring machine (Super Ryo*4), we got other try scorers on the board + different styles (wing try, intereception, forward like try)
– Our line out was well secured (all our line out secured but 1 not straight throw. One line won from opponents)
– All players were fit and into the game.
– Very few missed tackles (congratulation to Erwan + Kazu in particular)
– No game lost under Florian captain – Keep the pace!
